My blog is titled after one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite bands, "Below My Feet" by Mumford & Sons. Give it a listen if you can. The part that most stands out to me is the chorus:
Keep the earth below my feet,
For all my sweat, my blood runs weak,
Let me learn from where I have been,
Keep my eyes to serve, my hands to learn.
What beautiful words! Listening to this song is almost a prayerful experience for me. The first line inspires me to stay humble and grounded. The second line reminds me just how human and powerless I am. I'm even more obsessed with the third and fourth lines. Personal growth is something I always strive to produce in myself through every experience I have, good or bad. (I hate the idea of "peaking"- never stop cultivating and improving yourself.) As the third line states, it is one of my greatest hopes and desires to always "learn from where I have been" in the hopes of bettering myself as a person. Finally, the beautiful fourth line pretty much states exactly how I want to live my life, not only for this year but forever. Giving of yourself to others and gaining wisdom, what more could I ask for?
All right, I'll get off my soap box and let you find your own meaning in the lyrics. I'm telling you though THIS SONG IS DEEP! ;) I hope you can take the lyrics to heart and some of the words touch you, just as they did me.
(Oh hey there, Mumford & Sons. I love you.) |
