About/Disclaimer

ABOUT: Born and raised in the 'burbs of Las Vegas, Nevada, I decided to experience the seasons and a strange land called the Midwest when I headed off to the University of Notre Dame for college. Four years later, I left with a piece of paper called a "college degree" that says I learned something, especially a lot about biology and a little about Catholic social tradition. After deciding to take a year off (*cough cough* a "year on" or "year of enrichment" as I like to call it), before hopefully entering medical school, I tried to find something cool/fulfilling/life-changing/exciting/cultural/insert your own inspirational adjective to do with my time that would allow me to help others along the way... Call it a year of service, if you will.

I was fortunate enough to receive an offer to be a full-time volunteer with Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH), which is an international network of orphanages throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. All the children are welcomed into the NPH family for life after coming from situations of dire poverty. (I could go on and on about how awesome this organization is, but I'll just encourage you to check out the website on the "Links" page.) I will be serving as a Clinic Assistant at the NPH Guatemala home from June 2013-July 2014, and I could not be more excited! This blog is my way to share this journey through all its inevitable ups and downs with family, friends, and anyone else who is interested. Feel free to laugh at this 22-year-old blonde gringa as I attempt to embrace the uncertainty and get comfortable with being uncomfortable for the next 12 1/2 months in Guatemala. Prayers would be really nice too :)

Please help me spread the word about NPH and all the good work they are doing to help thousands of children! Comments on my blog posts are definitely welcome- I'll do my best to respond. Thanks for reading and God bless.

Also, Go Irish.
